Robert Moy

Founder of Brooklyn Balloon Company

Robert Moy lives in Williamsburg, where he founded Brooklyn Balloon Company in 2011. Graduating with a BS in Communications from Boston University, he later worked in graphic design and lighting. After moving to NYC to study jewelry at FIT, he worked several years in the fashion industry and eventually started his own line of fine jewelry.

He discovered balloon twisting by accident while at a corporate party and started practicing by watching videos on Youtube. Twelve year later and VOILA! "I found that there's a demand for balloons that's modern, fresh and cool," says Moy. With his background in fashion and design along with his impeccable craft, Robert takes ordinary balloons and transforms them into works of art.

Currently, Moy is working on resin balloon sculptures as part of his fine art series. Themes vary from Disney princess and Paris Hilton quotes to Little Tikes basketball hoops made of balloons - with an approach that is extremely tongue in cheek.

Selected as one of 200 visionaries by Louis Vuitton to create a work inspired by the classic trunk for their 200th birthday celebration this year. Moy’s sculpture consists of 122 balloons inflated, resin coated, polished and painted with LV logos and assorted party motifs. The trunk will be auctioned off later this year at Sotheby’s with all proceeds going to charity. Louis Vuitton is also making a 10k euro donation in Moy’s name to 1Bot, a STEM robotics education and entrepreneurship program for low income children in Guatemala. The Louis 200 exhibition will travel to London, Tokyo, New York and worldwide in 2022.

In 2016, Brooklyn Balloon Company was one of the artists at Refinery29 Rooms, an interactive journey inside an entire warehouse block of art, technology and fashion. Beyond the Bubbles for Perrier consisted of 2 thousand helium balloons ranging in size from 4 inches to 4 feet in diameter surrounding a pool of sparkling water.

The Brooklyn Museum commissioned Brooklyn Balloon Company to make a Basquiat inspired installation for the 2015 Brooklyn Artists Ball honoring Jean-Michel Basquiat. Robert is also a contributor at Garage Magazine, making performance and video installations that push the boundaries of balloon art. With over 40k Instagram followers, Brooklyn Balloon Company is truly blowing up!
