Founder of Brooklyn Balloon Company
Robert Moy lives in Williamsburg, where he founded Brooklyn Balloon Company in 2012. Graduating with a BS in Communications at Boston University, he later worked in graphic design and lighting. After moving to NYC to study jewelry at FIT, he worked several years in the fashion industry and eventually started his own line of fine jewelry.
He discovered balloon twisting by accident while at a company party and decided to take beginner balloon twisting classes. Five year later and VOILA! "I found that there's a demand for balloon craft that's modern, fresh and cool," says Moy. With his background in fashion, art and design along with his impeccable craft, Robert creates balloon sculptures and decor that amuse and fascinate kids and adults! He can make anything in balloon - from Chanel bags and Kanye West portraits to large scale museum installations. Robert takes ordinary balloons and transforms them into works of art.
This year Brooklyn Balloon Company was one of the artists at Refinery29 Rooms, an interactive journey inside an entire warehouse block of art, technology and fashion. Beyond the Bubbles for Perrier consisted of 2 thousand helium balloons ranging in size from 4 inches to 4 feet in diameter surrounding a pool of sparkling water.
In 2015, the Brooklyn Museum commissioned Brooklyn Balloon Company to make a Basquiat inspired installation for the Brooklyn Artists Ball honoring Jean-Michel Basquiat. Robert is also a contributor at Garage Magazine, the glossy publication by power patron Dasha Zhukova, making installations that push the boundaries of balloon art. With over 40k Instagram followers, Brooklyn Balloon Company is truly blowing up!
